Muslim women can drive after all

Apr 15, 2010 | In Arab News and Politics | No Comments

Who says Muslim women can't drive?! Well, until recently, the Washington, D.C., Department of Motor Vehicles did. They required that all drivers' license photos showed the full face of the driver up to the hairline, which was a problem for Muslim women who wear a hijab.

The issue became controversial when Muslim girls who were hoping to get their license were turned down because they refused to remove the scarf and reveal their faces for the snapshot, NBC.com reports.

However, after the Civil Rights division of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) stepped in, the DMV quickly responded and apologized for their treatment of the Muslim women who had applied for their licenses, according to the news source.

If there's a sudden slew of accidents in D.C., we all know who to blame (just kidding ladies)!

The news provider claims that 42 states have adopted more inclusive drivers' license photo regulations, and more may soon follow suit.

It's shocking that it took until now for this problem to be addressed. What do you guys think of this?ADNFCR-3193-ID-19722134-ADNFCR
