Mina Liccione and other funny ladies take the stage in Dubai

Mar 05, 2010 | In Arab Entertainment News | No Comments

On Monday, Mina Liccione, the lead performer of comedy troupe Funny Girls, will be part of history, as she and her band of wise-cracking counterparts make history as the first all-female comedy show in the Middle East. The women will take the stage at the Al Shalal Beach Club on Palm Jumeirah, according to The National.

The women who make up the international group, who all reside in Dubai, boast very diverse backgrounds. Lamya Tawfik is an Egyptian PhD student, Bronwyn Byrnes is an Australian hostess, Sophie Samuelian is an American-
Armenian teacher, Sabina Giado is a Sri Lankan communications coordinator and Liccione is an Italian-American from New York, the news source reports.

Liccione runs classes at the Dubai Community Theater and Arts Center, and is a keystone of the comic group.

"I think here [Dubai], arts and comedy have grown so much. I am ready to hear the women’s voices - and a lot of people are too. I get messages saying that all the time," Liccione told the news provider.

We're sure that the group will offer plenty of hilarious insight into life in Dubai. Maybe their act will make it over to the U.S.? We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for more dates from this groundbreaking act, and hope to hear more from the funny ladies in the future. ADNFCR-3193-ID-19755558-ADNFCR
