France discussing the ban of niquabs

Mar 31, 2010 | In Arab News and Politics | No Comments

For Muslim women in the U.S., getting ready for a date can be more complicated than just settling on the right shade of lipstick or picking out the perfect pair of jeans.

Muslim women are acutely aware that the clothing choices they make are not only indicative of their attitudes and personalities, but also representative of their religious beliefs and their values.

Those who choose to wear a veil may worry whether their date will be comfortable with their choice, while ladies who don western threads sometimes feel judged by their more conservative peers.

However, Muslim girls in France may no longer have to fret over their garment choices, as their outfits may be mandated for them. The French government has broached the idea of banning facial veils in public, according to BusinessWeek.com.

Though the ban is purportedly being instated for security purposes, it will affect the nearly 1,900 women in the country who currently chose to wear niquabs, according to the news source.

We think that it's a woman's prerogative to stress out about her clothing choices – what fun would a date be if you weren't anxious beforehand?
